First things first…La La Land quickly became my absolute favourite movie when I went to see it for the first time. This resulted in paying to see it a couple more times afterwards. If you want a full review on my thoughts and opinions about why it is such a classic and beautiful cinematic experience, feel free to message me; but for those of you that want me to get to the point of this post, I will refrain.
Emma Stone never fails to look wonderfully elegant throughout the film. This is partially due to her natural beauty, but also because Mary Zophres (La La Land costume designer) perfectly selected outfits that complimented Emma, while making every girl in the theatre fall in love with the 40’s and 50’s inspired looks.
I adored what Mary Zophres put together, and it inspired me to search my own closet and some stores to put together some La La Land looks of my own:
Emerald Evening Gown: LuLu’s
One of the outfits that stuck out the most to me in La La Land was when Mia and Sebastian went on their first real date to the theatre. She wore a lovely emerald gown that highlighted her beautiful fair skin and auburn locks. This dress from LuLu’s can be worn multiple ways via the versatile wrap that can transform it from a halter, to a cross front, strapless, or any other style you’re creative enough to attempt. Surprise! It is only $73.
Long 50’s Skirt: Aritzia
This skirt from Aritzia is currently on sale for $54.99. Although this exact one was not in the movie, it is totally a 50’s-like piece that Mia (Emma) would wear. You can pair it with a loose fitted or tie-up crop, throw some vintage pumps on and you’re good to go!
Notched Collar Denim Dress: Lulu’s
My favourite outfit from the movie was the pale pink, notched collar dress that Emma sports in one of the scenes. This similarly styled dress can be found for $119 at Lulu’s. Although a bit pricier than the other options on this list, it is definitely an option that could be worn on many occasions.
Simplistic Low-Mid Heel: Aldo
Mia (Emma) wears a a wide variety of simple low-mid heels throughout the film. This is partially because of all the dancing. However, they look adorable with all of the 40’s-50’s looks that occur throughout the film. These shoes are only $65 at Aldo and are definitely a great option for the girl that wants to look classy and remain comfortable at the same time!
