I LOVE FOOD. Who doesn’t? I also struggle with a bit of a snacking issue because for whatever reason, I am never full. If you’re like me, you are probably always looking for healthy substitutes for the foods you crave. I have put together a list of some items that you can purchase instead of the less-healthier versions. This way you can satisfy those cravings without the remorse afterwards! Enjoy!
1. Whipped Cream: Coconut Whip
This is the first on the list because it is one of my absolute favourite substitutes I’ve ever discovered! I’m someone who actually doesn’t like coconut flavour, but this product is delicious. I mix it in frozen berries to make a berries and cream desert, throw it in smoothies, and I’ve put it on my yummy protein pancakes as well. At only 30 calories per serving, coco whip is completely dairy free! You do not have to feel any type of regret after putting this stuff on anything!
2. Chips: Hippie Garden Chips
I need a crunch in my life. No matter how dedicated I am to a diet, I will not be able to get through it without something crispy for me to eat every day. These chips are the ONLY real veggie chips I’ve ever found. Hippie Garden Chips are made from real, organic vegetables tossed in dressings made from nuts and seeds. They are usually around 110 calories for half the bag and are certified organic, gluten free, non-GMO, and vegan.
*tip* Read packaging very carefully, just because you see pictures of vegetables, and it says “veggie chips”…definitely does not mean they are healthy by any means.
3. Cookies: Banana Snakaroons
Laughing Giraffe Organics creates products with only the purest organic ingredients. Their mission is to make food that is minimally processed, tastes great, and improves the quality of your life. Their Banana Snakaroons definitely do just that. They are a cookie-like texture made with only: coconut, agave, almonds, coconut oil, bananas, vanilla extract, and himalayan pink salt. They are 110 calories per serving and are gluten-free, certified organic, vegan, and non-GMO!
4. Pasta: Bean Spaghetti
Pasta is a staple in most homes, but we all know it’s not exactly the best choice for anyone trying to get or maintain a hot bod. Explore Cuisine has created an option that allows lovers of Italian dishes to indulge guilt free! Their pasta is entirely made from a variety of beans. You can get black bean, red bean, edamame…the list goes on. Their pastas are non-GMO, gluten free and organic. I eat this pasta multiple times a week and it is DELICIOUS.
5. Ice Cream: So Delicious Dairy Free Ice Cream
From the same creator of the coconut whip that I love, comes the dairy-free ice cream made mostly with cashews (also comes in a Soy based ice cream or coconut based ice cream). I love a cold treat before bed and this one is perfect! The best part about this ice cream is that there is nothing in it that you should feel bad about putting in your temple of a body!
6. Instant Oatmeal: Qi’a Oatmeal
Okay people, just because you’ve read that oatmeal is healthy in magazines and the hot soccer mom you know happens to always be on the go with her insta-oats…doesn’t mean that all oatmeal or instant oatmeal is good for you! *I’m speaking to you lovers of Quaker Maple Sugar Oatmeal*. Qi’a provides an actual healthy alternative with some awesome flavours (like their cinnamon pumpkin seed) that you can make regularly or instantly. It contains gluten-free rolled oats, hemp, chia, and buckwheat (sorry no maple syrup and extra sugar on top). It is also made with a plant-based protein, fibre, and ALA Omegas that will leave you satisfied.
